Reimaging Religion in the Public School Classroom
Monday, May 2, 2022, 7-8pm (ET)
John Camardella is a Master of Religion & Public Life Candidate who has authored a collection of resources for public school administrators and educators that challenge many traditional methods of addressing religion in the classroom. His professional development program advances a cultural studies approach as the most effective way to enhance student learning in any classes that encounter religion, including social studies, humanities, and world language courses. This program also articulates why this method is the most constitutionally sound way to teach about religion in public schools.
This free webinar will be hosted by Harvard Divinity School and will feature a brief history of John’s work, a description of the various learning modules, and a call to action. Dr. Diane Moore of Harvard Divinity School and Benjamin Marcus of The Freedom Forum Institute will offer introductory comments, with concluding remarks from Dr. David Schuler, Superintendent of District 214.
