CFP: Northeastern Regions of the American Academy of Religion, 2023 Regional Meeting

Northeastern Regions of the American Academy of Religion, 2023 Meeting
Date: Saturday, February 18, 2023
Location: Princeton Theological Seminary

Proposal Deadline: December 16, 2022

Conference Theme: Religious Literacy in Post-Covid Society

Religious literacy involves the ability to understand the religious traditions of the world critically. Religiously literate individuals, we hope, will better understand how to discuss religion and to recognize when religious traditions are misrepresented. Furthermore, religiously literate individuals will understand how religious history, religious texts, religious rituals, and other aspects of religion influence society.

As we examine religious literacy in this conference, we wish to come together with individuals of diverse backgrounds to think about how religious literacy can lead to a more harmonious society. We seek to learn more about how religion influences the identities, epistemological frameworks, and ethics of individuals and communities.

With this in mind, the Executive Committee is especially interested in using the 2023 conference to think about how to promote religious literacy among students (at every level), as well as beyond academia. We also aspire to think about how to develop religious literacy in various industries such as the healthcare industry.

The Committee will consider proposals that do not adhere to this broad theme. You may only submit one proposal to a given section, for a total of two proposals.

If you have questions about which section to submit to or need additional information about submitting a proposal, please contact Acting President, Dr. Sabrina D. MisirHiralall at MisirHiralall.S [at] gmail.com.
